New Ottawa Location

Quintilian School is planning to open a new location in Ottawa for the 2012/13 school year.

We have begun to discuss the possibility of bringing Quintilian School to Ottawa with families in the Ottawa area and the response has been overwhelming. To facilitate our efforts and to ensure there is a minimum of confusion, we would like to outline the steps families need to take to secure a seat in the new classroom and provide answers to the questions that have been asked by interested families so far.

If you are interested in hearing more about Quintlian please send an email indicating your interest to ottawa@quintilianschool.org and we will be happy to follow up with you.

Background:

Quintilian School has been in operation in Kingston for over ten years. It is a school dedicated entirely to supporting children with a variety of learning challenges. Our individualized programming ensures each child recieves the support they require to suceed academically and socially. Our programming is guided by the Ontario curriculum, however students are not rushed through curriculum in order to fulfill grade level expectations. A formal diagnosis is not required to attend Quintilian school.

First Meeting:

The best way to understand how Quintilian differes from any other school is visit and see for yourself. We would encourage any interested parents to contact us and schedule an appointment to come and observe the Kingston classroom.

Immediately following, there will be a private meeting with the owners of Quintilian to discuss the school and the needs of your child. We would like to hear about your child's experience in school so far, what you hope to gain from Quintilian, and answer any questions you have. Any documentation you wish to share is welcome and is kept confidential.

If after your initial visit you would be interested in securing a spot for your child at the new Ottawa location, your child's name will be put on the assessment list. Families who have completed their visit will recieve an email to shedule an assessment as soon as ten children are on this list.

Assessment:

Each child who attends Quintilian school visits the school for at least a half day beforehand .Your child will do initial assessments with our head teacher Laura DeSousa to determine the program's suitability. Your child will also be able to see what a Quintilian classroom is like and determine if it is an environment they wish to be a part of. The assessment day has a cost of $150.

Waiting List:

If Quintilian determines that our program suits your child and you decide that it is the right fit for your family, your name will be placed on the waiting list. Once it is determined that the school will go ahead for the 2012/2013 school year, the families will be contacted in order to enable them to make a final decision.

As the details become available, the website will be upated with regards to location, registration and tuition. Because the school is small, no firm plans can be made until it is determined that there is sufficient interest to secure a staff and a space.

  1. Where will the school be located? We do not yet have a location secured, but our intial research indicates that the west end of Ottawa is the most likely location. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share them with us.
  2. What grades will be accepted? The school will be offering a classroom for Grades 4 to 8. If however the child is working at either above or below these grade levels – it will be accomodated. It is anticipated that in future years a classroom for grades 1-3 will be added.
  3. What will the tuition be? Tuition will vary depending upon the location. Our current space in Kingston is very reasonable and has allowed us to keep tuition very low compared to other private schools. It is estimated that tuition will be between $1000 and $1400 per month.
  4. Who are the teaching staff ? Quintilian will be looking for a qualified special education teacher and an educational assistant to participate in a placement at Quintilian school in Kingston. Applications can be submitted to Quintilian School.

This plan is in the very early stages and there are many issues that still need to be finalized, your patience is appreciated.
